Social Music Experiment: Playlist and Results
The Social Music Experiment has finally come to an end, and to be honest, I have mixed feelings. You guys were REALLY great about sending me songs, and sometimes albums to check out. The majority of the music skewed towards the alternative/indie genre, which I love. There was definitely a little bit of everything: GWAR- in case you feel like strangling kittens, Christmas music, in case you feel like annoying your cube neighbor, country (which surprisingly, didn’t drive me insane. Check out The Randy Rogers Band. They’re pretty good!), hip hop, classic rock, electronica, classical, soul, blues- everything. It was really cool to see how varied everyone is in their taste. I was thrilled not to have a ton of main stream artists. It’s always fun to find something new and different.
The unexpected benefit of this project is that I’ve discovered a lot of music that I REALLY like, that I’m not sure I would have discovered had I not asked, “What should I listen to?” Some of my favorites: Ted Leo, Bitter:Sweet (sexy!), Glasvegas, Orbital were among my favorites. Things I won’t listen to again? Kings of Leon, GWAR…that’s probably honestly it. Of course, there is a ton of stuff you’ve probably heard before, but I can promise you, there’s a lot that you probably haven’t heard, and I encourage you to try something new. Tell me what you love. Tell me what you hate.
Some of the songs you submitted, I simply could not find. For those artists, I substituted a different song by that artist. If you submitted an entire album, I selected a couple songs that I thought represented the album the best in order to keep the playlist under 300 songs. But have no fear, I listened to every. single. song.
And, without further ado, here is YOUR Social Music Playlist:

Nice playlist dude. I see you picked some good ones from the bands I gave you. How many people sent you suggestions?
Gwar Rules! They make me laugh every time I think of them. I do actually really like “Saddam A Go-Go”, it’s a great song with a catchy theme.
