Introducing RealPlayer SP
Today is a big day for Real: we announced the latest version (may I say, a total overhaul) of RealPlayer, now called RealPlayer SP beta. Whatever version you’re using-upgrade. SP, which stands for “social” and “portable” is so cool, that it should be called RealPlayer SC. SP is more than just a media player. It is quite simply the only way to easily transfer your favorite web videos to your favorite devices. If you’re excited enough to skip the rest of this post you can download it for free right here.
Why is this so practical? Because, as a video-taking addict, I have struggled forever for an easy solution to get my UGC videos and my favorite funny online videos on my phone/device of choice. For instance, I have a puppy. He’s goofy and I like to take video of him. But unless someone has a computer at the ready I can’t show them my videos because I can’t put my videos on my phone. RealPlayer SP provides the solution to that problem. Now, I can take my videos, drag and drop them into the RPSP converter, select my device of choice and voila- the program is smart and knows exactly what codec to pump out your file in, and it’s ready to move to your device. It seriously couldn’t get much easier. And it’s not like one or two devices either. It is the most popular devices on the market: iPhones, iPods, BlackBerrys, Palm Pre, PSPs, you name it.

RealPlayer has gone through quite an evolution in it’s day. It pioneered audio on the web back in the mid ’90s when most of us were still using dial-up. In version 11, we added a “download this” button to allow you to download web videos from your favorite video websites. With the ever changing technology scene currently focused heavily on social media and portability, it was a natural next step to make RealPlayer social and portable.
Here’s the social part: Twitter and Facebook are all the rage these days. We’ve made it super easy to share your favorite videos on both sites. With a simple click on the sidebar of RealPlayer SP library, or as you’re downloading your video, you can tweet a link to your favorite videos, giving credit to where you downloaded them from, or you can post a video thumbnail with a quick link to the video on your Facebook profile. No unnecessary upload wait time. Cake.
I want to show you how cool RPSP is from a practical perspective. We’ve been focused on audio and video on the web since the mid 90’s when most of us were still using dial-up, and now we’re taking it up a big notch. The need for easy video conversion has been answered, and if you’re curious about it, you should give it a shot. We’ve got lots of resources for you to find out about any updates, news, and even some pretty cool contests coming up in the near future. Currently it’s only available for PC, but a Mac version is expected by the end of the year.
