Mother’s Day is coming. Are you ready?
Mothers Day is Sunday. Did you forget? It’s ok. We won’t tell. What we will do is give you a little assistance, history and advice.
I’d always assumed Mother’s Day was another Hallmark holiday. While this may be partly true, there’s actually a pretty interesting history to the occasion. There are several different origins for the celebration of mothers dating back to historic Roman and Greek times and worshipping the mothers of the gods and goddesses. I’m imagining the “Don’t you dare even think about it” look that a mother of a god would have, and am currently cowering in the corner.
In 1907 Anna Jarvis, a school teacher from Philadelphia, wanted to honor her mother in a big way and set out to have ”mother’s day” become an official holiday. I know, nice gift right? Well, in 1914 Anna’s dreams were realized when President Wilson put into the history books that Mother’s Day was to be celebrated on the second Sunday of each May. Since then, moms all over the country have enjoyed flowers, chocolate and trips to the spa thanks to their progeny.
So, back to the question at hand… Did you forget Mother’s Day? You still have a couple days and here are a few things that can help show mom that not only did you not forget, but you’ve got something a little different for her this year. Did you know moms are MAJOR casual game players? They love them! They may never confess that to you, but we know their secret! GameHouse is offering mommas everywhere a special deal on casual games. Buy one get one free! And, according to our 6th sense, moms really love hidden object and puzzle games and we have an absurd amount of both (though I highly recommend Little Shop Memories and Jewel Quest 3).
I’m not just hawking games because we happen to be a gaming company (though, I suppose it doesn’t hurt). There are hard numbers out there revealing that women (and yes, that includes a lot of moms!) are the prime players of casual games. In fact, 86% of GameHouse users are female, with 64% being married with children. We also know that the most favored games to play with kids are hidden object, puzzle and time management. These games make a great bonding experience. So why go with flowers when you can give fun?
Perhaps your mom is just not into games. No worries, we bet she probably likes music, movies, and TV. Have you checked out SuperPass? It’s a pretty incredible deal. It has TV shows you can’t find online anywhere else (like the best of the Discovery Channel), online music (including $10 in free MP3s each month), games, and more. It’s an amazing package and mom has never dreamed of so much entertainment in one place.
So, there you have it. A few options to keep mom happy and entertained for months to come. Look how good you turned out. She should be proud.
