Super Bowl XLIII Ad Recap

The Super Bowl did not disappoint last night, unless you had money on the Steelers- then I’m sorry your team couldn’t beat the spread. The fourth quarter was one of the best in recent memory. But what about the ads? Were they as exciting as the game?

Overall they were pretty mellow, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t a few gems squeezed in between the 4 quarters of gridiron action. There has been poll after poll, suvey and quiz asking folks about the commercials from last night’s ad-fest. The results are all different, but a few spots seem to float to the top of each poll.

According to AdBowl, the top rated ad was Bridgestone’s Taters ad. It was pretty good…

Another crowd-pleaser, the Doritos’ Crystal Ball ad, (my fave) was created by two guys for a Frito Lay contest. Talk about jack pot. They walked away with $1 million for their creativity.

An odd favorite was the Miller High Life 1 second ad that ran for…1 second. It cracked me up, and left me a bit confused. But it was effective. People are still talking about it

.

Bud Light had their usual hilarity in full force. The best spot being this “Drinkability” number.

Then there was the Cash4Gold ad. I didn’t know if this was real or if the Energizer Bunny was going to pop into frame wearing some bling. Alas, it was real, and very strange.

Even pets got in on the action, though I’m thinking the Rhino may be tough to train…

The trailer for Transformers 2 premiered during the commercials too. This one wasn’t funny so it doesn’t get my vote. There were a few total bombs as well-mainly from huge car companies which couldn’t come up with anything clever so they just ran normal car commercials. At least GoDaddy tried to be funny. And it turns out their spots, though tasteless, reaped big benefits for the company.

These ads could prove to be Super Bowl classics, and talked about for years to come- which, again, is why we remind you that RealPlayer 11 is perfect for post-Super Bowl days like today. Keep your favorite clips on your computer, or even put them on your iPod. Your funny library just got a little bit easier to maintain.

I may be biased, but I thought the grease monkeys were pretty awesome. If you want to see it, check out the video here http://bit.ly/4Jr2

@Castrol – You’re right. This is also a great ad. I’m not sure why it didn’t get more traction. It definitely made me laugh.
