Which Ringback Tone is on Your Phone?

Are you one of the millions of Americans who has a ringback tone instead of a “ring” when people call you? You know, when you call someone and instead of hearing a “ring ring” , you are treated to a musical selection? Ringback tones make calling someone a little more interesting and depending on what song you choose for yours, can lighten the mood of a call, or send a serious hint to that creepy dude who may or may not be stalking you.  If you have Weird Al Yankovic singing “White and Nerdy”, for example, you often answer the phone to hear the caller cracking up! AND, you can really customize it to choose a specific song for individuals who call you often.  They just aren’t that heavily promoted.  Unsure what song to choose?

Let us play out a few scenarios for you:

Do you have a (huge) crush on someone? Try “Every Breath You Take“, to send a not-so-subtle hint.

Perhaps the aforementioned creepy dude keeps calling you. Try using, “Somebody’s Watching Me.”

Or, maybe it’s an over-zealous ex-girlfriend. If that’s the case “Crazy Bitch“, could be the answer.

Thinking of leaving your job and want to send a hit? Try “Like a Boss*”, by the Lonely Island. Warning: you WILL get fired.

Of course, these are all kind of silly situations. You can use sentimental songs for your spouse, cute songs for your kids. You get the point. It’s fun because you can make it exactly what you want it to be. Totally customizable. We pulled a little info on the top 10 ringback tones in the U.S. for Real’s mobile operator customers in January and February.

January’s top 10:

Bedrock – Young Money ft. Lloyd

I Am – Mary J. Blige

Tik Tok – Ke$ha

Need You Now – Lady Antebellum

Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart – Alicia Keys

Say Something – Timbaland

Say Aah – Trey Songz feat. Fabolous

Bad Romance – Lady Gaga

Empire State of Mind – Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys

Sex Therapy – Robin Thicke

February’s top 10:

Bedrock – Young Money ft. Lloyd

Need You Now – Lady Antebellum

Say Something – Timbaland

I Am – Mary J. Blige

Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home) – Usher feat. Plies

Tik Tok – Ke$ha

Say Aah – Trey Songz feat. Fabolous

Smile – Uncle Kracker

Rude Boy – Rihanna

Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart – Alicia Keys

As you can see there’s not a ton of changeover from January to February. A lot of the same songs hold strong from month-to-month. You can help get your favorite song into the top ten by adding a ringback tone to your phone. Do you already have a ringback tone? Which song do you use? What have you heard on other people’s phones? What other songs could be good in unique situations?
