It’s Here! RealPlayer SP for Mac!

RealPlayer SP has been very well-received by PC users worldwide. But no matter how happy we’ve been with the results, we’ve had one thing nagging at us-the lack of Mac support. We’ve been all over the country in the last six months talking about RealPlayer SP, and the one universal complaint was that it was PC-only. That all changes today as we’re thrilled to announce RealPlayer SP for Mac. Mac users have been able to download videos to their machines for a few years with RealPlayer 11, but with SP, you’re now able to take those videos and put them on your favorite phones, iPods, and even your XBox.

The Mac version works slightly differently than the PC software, as there are certain requirements/allowances for Mac OSX. For instance, the infamous “download this” button you may be familiar with in the PC version is not in the Mac version. Instead, whenever you watch a video, the download/converter window of RPSP will open and ask if you’d like to save that video to your Mac and convert it to your device. This is similar to how RP 11 currently works. The only difference is that now you’ll have the option to move the videos elsewhere.

This should be great news for people who like the functionality of RPSP but have their iPhones synced with a Mac (like I do)! Now all of those hilarious web videos, awesome sports videos or videos of your kids can now go wherever you go. We’d love for you to give the Mac version a try, give us feedback and spread the word. We’ll be monitoring our Facebook page closely, looking for any feedback as well as suggestions for future versions.

There are no options to convert media with this release. I have just downloaded this and installed it on an intel mac running snow leopard. I have looked all around the options for both Realplayer and Realplayer downloader. There is no way to convert files at all. This is false information.

    Hello,

Where is the right link to download RealPlayer SP, please ? The link above direct us to the download page of the Real Player 11 software. Thank you.

Well, congratulations for still supporting powerpc and os x Tiger. It is not a crash party so perhaps, it deserves to be uploaded/published at macupdate and versiontracker like sites. Having beta label of course.

I have really liked the UI and simplicity of the video converter, a definite need for Mac users. Hopefully it uses multiple cores/sse/altivec etc.

  5. Jean-Jacques,
    The correct link is http://www.real.com
That’s what I had in the post, though, so if it’s not working please let me know. thanks, sherry

  6. This is awesome news Lacy and I will do what I can to get it out to the SMC members!

    Off topic.

    Your Real Player sucks!

Why Real Player is THE only player that can’t play a file, if that file is somewhere else but in RealPlayer Downloads after updating? Are you incapable? Just wandering.

    • Lacy Kemp says:

      Hi Paul,
It’s a little hard to tell from your comment exactly what the issue is. But, if you’re wondering if RealPlayer will play other files on your computer that aren’t in your library the answer is yes.

Hi Lacy, its useful tools since I got alot of rmvb files and wants to convert into mp4 in my ipod touch when I carry for my business trip, however, the mp4 files converted – it is upside down and left-right reversed, how to fix this issue?

    regards, Terence

  12. lawrence hordy says:

how do i get it to install on a usb 8gigstick ?

  13. Paulo Goes says:

It’s been so long since I first use Real Player and the only thing that really disappoints me is the fact that Real Player doesn’t have a podcast/screencast aggregator like iTunes or even Miro. How long will it take until anyone do something about it?
Besides, it is my favorite player, pal!

  14. fish says:

If you ask me Mac users don’t deserve Realplayer.

  15. Franklin says:

UGH! I just downloaded realplayersp and now non of my movies will play, please help!

    • Lacy Kemp says:

Franklin, please send a detailed email to social_media@mailca.custhelp.com and they can help you out.

      • Franklin says:

Thank you! I’m so frustrated! When I upgraded my realplayer to realplayersp it configured all my flv movies to another flv format that I’m not familiar with and now they wont play. And usually when I’m on a sight and I watch a movie, it automatically imports it to real player downloader where I can in turn choose to download it and that too disappeared! I will email them tomorrow, again thank you!

  16. Dan says:

I’ve been using Realplayer 11 for a long time and thought the new Real Player SP upgrade would bring a few welcome features. But its brought nothing but bugs and problems. The major selling point of Real Player for mac for me was that, a lot of radio streams are in real media format and that the downloader tool is capable of saving files even after they’ve been played on youtube without redownloading them. RealPlayer SP completely fucks up the downloader tool.

New videos are not detected unless they’re opened in new tabs, taking focus away from the currently playing video screws up its download and my favourite feature of the old downloader, being able to open a bunch of videos, watch em all, then open up the downloader and just hit save to have them all saved instead of redownloading is gone. Now the downloader has to be open when the video starts playing.

    Fix these issues please.

    • Lacy Kemp says:

      Hi Dan,
Thanks for your candid feedback. I’m going to send your comments along to the product team so they can see what you’re experiencing.

Yep the upgrade has been tragic, I’ve gotten rig of the new version and gon back to gold at least it works although lost pause and stop functionality of clips.

Total genius’s guys take something that works and screw it up

Going on how much I liked 11 gold I’d pay a reasonable fee for the application if it worked but seems like it’s going south,… fast ;(
