Remember when Dr. Evil said “one meelion dollars” in Austin Powers and everybody laughed at him? One million seems like a lot to me, and a lot to you, probably. But what about 100 million? Or, one tenth of a billion? That seems like a huge number. And it is. In less than six months you guys have downloaded over 100 million videos using RealPlayer SP. Wow!

Just to put in perspective how incredibly cool this is we have a few fun factoids for you:

It took YouTube 17 months to have 100 million video views.

It took MySpace 36 months to reach 100 million accounts.

It took 66 months to sell 100 million iPods and iTunes 44 months to sell 100 million downloads.

The iPhone app store has over 100 million downloads a month, merely 18 months post store-launch.

And, of course, no list of 100 million would be complete without McDonalds. For the record, it took them three years to sell 100 million burgers.

We had a little celebration at work yesterday to mark this milestone. And RealPlayer SP just keeps getting better. With our Mac launch a little over a month away, and improvements to our PC version coming, we expect these numbers to keep growing as customers find out just how easy it is to download video and convert it to their mobile phones and portable devices.
